Milk & Honey Hair Smoothie Receipe!

Give this Curls concoction a whirl...your curls will love you for it! This treatment is a great pre/post swim treatment! Summer is around the corner!

Milk & Honey Hair Smoothie - Deep Treatment
  • 1 can of pure coconut milk (rich moisturize - hydrates, conditions and defrizzes hair)

  • 1 ripe avocado (natural source of protein - chlorine robs the hair of protein)

  • 2 tablespoons of pure honey (conditions and adds sheen)

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil (hydrophobic oil that acts as a barrier to chlorine and salt water)

    Directions:
Add ingredients to blender. Mix at high speed until your concoction reaches a smoothie consistency.

Store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can warm up your hair smoothie in the microwave before next application...just enough do de-chill.

    Substitutions:
feel free to substitute the olive oil for any natural oil of your choice.
Add more oil for extra dry hair, e.g. 1 tablespoon.
Add more honey for hair that needs more sheen, e.g. 2 table spoons.

    Instructions for Use:
    Section hair into 4 segments.
Generously apply evenly to hair, from root to ends concentrating on ends...as they are the most prone to damage.
Smooth hair into a protective style (e.g. braided ponytail, or bun).
Enjoy your day at the pool, lake, or ocean!

CURLS Hosts "My Nappy Roots" Reception

CURLS hosts the post screening reception for the award winning documentary, My Nappy Roots, Sunday 10/15/06!

Celebrity interviews: Vivica A Fox, Patti Labelle, Elise Neal, Kim Fields, Malcolm-Jamal Warner + more.

"My Nappy Roots," is an edutainment documentary that takes an unparalleled look at how black hair is used as a prism through which to look at cultural, societal, and political issues in the African American community over time. The film reveals the significance and pride of African hairstyles prior to the first arrival of enslaved Africans to African Americans, where the broader struggle of Blackpeople began, to the modern establishment of black hair as an economic mainstay in America. This struggle translates into a billion dollar industry - ethnic hair care -that exists today. Celebrity and industry leaders share their hair stories and reflections on the industry. Celebrity interviews include Vivica A Fox, Patti LaBelle, Elise Neal, Kim Fields, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and others; industry leaders include George Johnson (Johnson Products), Ed Garndner (Soft Sheen Products), Gary Gardner (Organic Root), Bernard Bronner (Bronner Brothers International hair show and products) and many others. As a 22-minute short, the film has won numerous awards to include Best Documentary (2004 Hollywood Black Film Festival and San Francisco Black Film Festival), Best of Best (FESPACO, International Film Festival in Africa), and the Audience Choice Award (African American Women in Cinema 2005 Film festival). Because of these accolades, the short is in the process of being lengthen to a feature length for release Summer2006.

Looking for a Heat Protectant STyler? Curl Euphoria Elixir Meets the Challenge!

Our very own CURLS Tester, Kindra Perry, shows us how to use Curl Euphoria Elixir to create silky straight tresses.

Now, I just LOVE her natural curls! I love my natural curls too...but every once in a while a curly girl longs for change.

Curl Euphoria Elixir is the perfect heat protectant for curly girls going straight!

Learn How Kindra Goes from Curly to Straight!
After air-drying my hair, I lightly blow-dry (using a lower seating). Just enough to get rid of some of the dampness and make my hair into sort of a straighter afro. Then I proceeded to heat-style. Using a ceramic iron, I apply Curl Euphoria Elixir to each section of hair, and then apply a little more to each individual section before straigthening. When done, I wrap my hair in a satin triangle (scarf). When I am ready to take my hair down, I use a paddle brush and shake for volume!

Sisters & Curls!

Rachel, 4 and Brooke, 5 are not only sisters...but they are best friends!

They love playing girly games - dress up & dolls or getting their nails and hair done (with Curly Q products, of course)! Brooke just started Kindergarten and loves learning and is taking her role as a big girl very seriously. Oh, and she is a great little artist. She loves helping out around the house and being a good big sister. Rachel is a little actress. Actually, she is quite the comedian. She is so expressive and loves to dance.

Aren't they adorable?
